History
The ancestors of the Barthal Sardar were Sekhon Jats, who came independently with the Dallewalias from the Panjab towards the end of the eighteenth century and fell shortly afterwards under the supremacy of the Ladwa Chiefs.
Sardar Chatar Singh was the first of the family to whom was accorded the honor of a seat in provincial Darbars. He died in 1884, leaving his affairs in an embarrassed condition. His only son Indar Singh took the protection of the Court of Wards, and an economical scheme of management was sanctioned with the object of freeing the estate from encumbrances.
