History

The founder of the jagir, Rai Singh, a Kang Jat from Amritsar, entered the Malwa country about 1763, and secured sixteen villages to the south-west of Khana. After a long struggle for independent existence, the holders found themselves swal lowed up by the Raja of Patiala, who annexed the villages to his own State. An appeal made to Mr. Fraser, Resident at Dehli, resulted in the restoration of eight of them to the Mazra Sardars, who thenceforward came under British protection, furnishing three sowars for duty at the Samrala Tahsil in token of feudal service. Sardar Utam Singh about this time took up his abode at Dhiru Mazra, dividing off the villages with his nephew Gurbakhsh Singh, who thenceward became the head of the Jhabu Mazra branch.
