History

The principality of Riri was established by the Jakhar clan. They trace their origin to Sindh however their progenitor Jakhu/Jakhbhadra migrated to Saurashtra due to the Arab invasion. According to the Jakhar bhats, Jakhu lost a swamwara at Dwarka, embarrassed he left for Marwar. This only means that Jakhu who was a fugitive from Sindh was unable to gain some land and a suitable match for himself in Saurashtra so he migrated to Marwar. The progeny of Jakhu, the Jakhars established several principalities chief among them were Riri and Mandholi(see Mandholi). Rao Shri Kohlioji was the first among the Jakhar chiefs who gained a footing in the Jangal tract, he took control of Keo but was killed in the battle against the Mohils. His son Rao Shri Jakshaji is known for establishing Jakhasar. It was Rao Shri Ridhipal, the grandson of Kohlioji who established Riri. Rao Vijaypal/Bhiggaji, 4th in gen. from Ridhipal is the most known chief of Riri. He is now worshipped as the kuldevta by the Jakhar clan. He died fighting the Raths at Jaitaran. The last ruler of Riri was Rao Shri Jaswantsimha*. We have a broken genealogy of the Jakhar rulers of Riri.

*we are not sure exaftly how many gen after Vijaypalji did Jaswantsimha was born.
