Raja Ram Partap Singh Of Bhadaur, was born to Sardar Harchand Singh and Rani Bakhtawar Kaur in 1923. He was born at the ancestral Fort of ‘Bhadaur House’, Ludhiana and delivered by reputable Dr. Brown, the attending doctor. The title of Raja was conferred on Raja Ram Partap Singh when he was only twelve years old.Here, the rule of primogeniture was also applicable. He became a courtier at the Patiala Durbar, in lieu of his late father.He became the head of the Bhadaur family in 1934, and was initially commissioned into 3rd Patiala Infantry and became Commandant-Major, with the Yadavindra Bodyguards of the Patiala State. On the premature death of his father, he was brought up on the orders of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh in Moti Bagh Palace, Patiala. He was one of the only four people at court for whom Maharaja Bhupinder Singh used to stand up for accepting ‘nazar’ and were never restrained by the attending attendants, as a special mark of recognition, they wore gold on their feet. The four were – his son, then Yuvraj Yadvinder Singh, General Gurnam Singh (his father-in-law), Raja Ram Partap Singh and the Prime Minister of Patiala State.
Maharaja Bhupinder Singh enrolled Raja Ram Partap Singh, in Aitchison Chiefs College, Lahore, where he excelled in sports including cricket, athletics and swimming. He was considered one of the finest riders the country had ever produced. In 1938, on the second marriage of Maharaja Yadvinder Singh, Raja Ram Partap Singh stood in lieu of the then deceased Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, at all the entailing marriage ceremonies in Chail. In 1942, he married Rani Surinder Kaur, daughter of Sardar Pritam Singh Shergill, who was the younger brother of General Gurnam Singh. He was a member of the Board of Governors of YPS, Patiala and became Chairman of the Board in 1971, a position he held until his death on October 14, 1997, in Chandigarh. He was the moving force in starting YPS, Mohali, and helped in shaping it into a premier institute.
This institute stands tall to this day. A very keen amateur gardener, his homes in Patiala and Kasauli, boast of aesthetically beautiful gardens. On his demise, the editor of Tribune, paid a befitting tribute to him in the editorial of The Tribune.
