Sardar Mehtab Singh Gill Of Charik, was born in 1948, is the son of Gill Jat Jagirdar Sardar Devinder Singh Gill Of Charik, who was an MLA of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, from 1952 to 1957. He was educated at the Lawrence School, Sanawar, and obtained his law degree from the faculty of the Punjab University, Chandigarh.
Having joined the law profession, he first practiced in the District Courts at Moga,and then later shifted to the Puniab & Haryana High Court, in 1988. His success led him to be appointed as Deputy Advocate General in 1993, and was later promoted to Additional Advocate General of Punjab, in 1997. He was then allocated to the bench and served as a Judge in 1999. Through sheer determination and perseverance, he was appointed Acting Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court, in 2010. Presently, he is Chairman of the Commission, appointed by the Congress Government, to investigate the numerous false cases registered during the Akali-BJP Government from 2007 to 2017.
In 1974, he married Sardarni Harsimrat Kaur, the daughter of Sardar Harcharan Singh Ajnala from Amritsar, former Education Minister & Speaker of the Congress Government.
