Colonel Sardar Ram Singh Sarkaria of Kot Khalsa, was born in 1902 into Sandhu Jat family, He was the elder son of Sardar Bahadur Sardar Ajaib Singh Sarkaria of Kot Khalsa (b.1882,d.1959) participated in the First World War. He was educated in America for five years, and then at Oxford University, England, for a year, remaining abroad from 1922 to 1928.When he returned to India as a bacteriologist, he took up an appointment with the Agriculture College, Lyallpur, (now Faisalabad, Pakistan). In 1930, he invented ‘Berseem’ a green fodder that proved to be a boon for animals during the summer months. He was died in 1955.
