Tiwana

Tiwana / Tiwan / Tivana / Tivana – is a clan of Jats , In Patiala they claim descent from Lakkhu, 7th in descent from Tiwana, a Punwar Chief and direct descendants of Raja Bhoj Parmar of of Malwa and still discountence “karewa”, They migrated from Dhara Nagri in the 13th century. They worship a Sati called Dadi Bir Sadhoi, to whom they offer the first milk ot a cow, and, at weddings, 5 and half yards of cloth, a rupee and two “laddus”. Later in the same dynasty, Chaudhary Chand Singh established a State called Chinarthal Kalan in 1460. Zindagi remained an independent State till 1817 and then from 1817 to 1947 it remained the Jagirdar of Patiala State. Along with this, people of this clan follow Hindu and Sikh religions more, but some of them also follow Islam.

Tiwana – The Tiwana tribe, like many in Punjab, have both Rajput and Jat identity. The Khushab branch of the Tiwana claim to be Parmars . Prior to partition, there were a fair number of Muslim Tiwanas in Patiala District. Most of these Tiwanas claim to be Jat. The Patiala Tiwanas migrated to Pakistan after partition. They are now found mainly in Sargodha district.
