Kanwar Vijay Singh Randhawa Of Mustafabad was born 1942, and studied at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla. His maternal uncle who was himself in Government service, came to look after the entire estate, on the request of the mother of Kanwar Vijay Singh. Interestingly, on the death of his father, just prior to the Partition of 1947, the Government of India conferred upon him the honorary rank of Captain, in the Indian Army. However, he was unable to accept the rank due to his age, added with the fact, that when the British Government left India, the honorary title was accordingly revoked. Later, he continued with further studies at Khalsa College, Amritsar. Vijay Singh yearned to join the Indian Army, but on his mother’s insistence, after graduation instead maintained his landed estates, as she felt the family estates would deteriorate in his absence. For the next few years, he was involved with every aspect of his estates, which were marred with numerous cases, associated with the strict land policies of the Indian Government, who endeavoured to break down the large Jagirdars. This was further exacerbated when the Land Ceiling Act was introduced in 1972, whereby powerful landowners were prohibited from retaining certain large areas of agricultural lands for farming. Vijay Singh sold off large portions of his ancestral land, and retained a small portion of land for his family. Thereafter, he served as Chairman of the Marketing Committee, for the next two terms, at Jagadhri and Mustafabad, and was appointed the headman (Sarpanch) of Mustafabad, for five years. He has a son, Jagdeep Singh, from his first wife, Jagjit Kaur who died in 2006. In 1973. he married Harjit Kaur, daughter of Sardar Onkar Singh Dhillon, of the Tangaur family. She is the great-great granddaughter of Sardar Gurbaksh Singh, who was the great-nephew of Sandhu Jat ruler Shaheed Baba Deep Singh. Hailing from a noble background, Vijay Singh is a man of extreme generosity, full of wit and possesses inborn characteristics of a worthy Sardar. His two other sons are;Gagandeep Singh and Navdeep Singh.
