Major Sardar Mohinder Singh Sarkaria of Kot Khalsa, was born at Kot Khalsa in 1922, he is the third son of Sardar Bahadur Sardar Ajaib Singh Sarkaria of KotKhalsa (b.1882,d. 1959), He has undertaken painstaking efforts to preserve the history of Kot Khalsa or Ghorewah. He studied at various schools in Jalandhar, first enlisting at the Government Primary School, then the Dayan and Arya Vernacular School, Doaba Khalsa High School and Khalsa College, Amritsar. His first job was becoming an Honorary Assistant Recruitment Officer, for the Indian Army that lasted two years. This later led to the appointment of a Rationing Officer in the Department of Civil Supplies of the Punjab Government. He was also temporarily a Ration Controller, thereby becoming head of the department at Hisar, Haryana. Then he established the ‘Ranjit Farm’ at Shahgarh, in Pilibhit District, Uttarakhand. For the next fifteen years, he joined the Territorial Army, undergoing eight major army courses. He was duly decorated by the President of India for his meritorious services, and permitted to retire, retaining the rank of Major for life, on April 14, 1973. He launched a number of depots of canteen stores for the Indian Armed Forces at Jalandhar, Delhi, Lucknow Cantonment and Guwahati in Assam, which supplied various logistics to the Indian Air Force and Army.
