Sant Jogishwar Das of Phalewal, was born in Phalewal 12 kms from Ludhiana on Ludhiana-Maler kotla Road, inti a Grewal Jat family. His father was a saint who meditated for many years and lived till the age of 96. During Sant Ji’s younger days he visited various religious places in almost all the North Indian states. He also went up to Rameshwaram in South. He visited Hemkunt Sahib seven times and wanted to visit more. Kalewal was a meeting place for various saints. Sant Ji was very fond of giving medical aid to the people though he was not qualified. He gained experience about medicine from various experts and recorded as a handwritten manuscript adding his own experience. Aided by his practice he was able to treat many serious patients as well till his last day. He was fond of martial arts as well as music. He used to play gatka and taught the same to many youth.

He was a master of guitar as well. His craze for visiting religious places continued for whole of his life. On the eve of birth days of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji, he used to visit Patna and Sultanpur Lodhi staying there for a week or more meditating regularly. He stayed in Patna for one month in 1895.

Thereafter, he started staying in Palwal. A saint Ramnarayan used to come from Rishikesh and stayed with him occasionally. There used to be a pond between Gujjarwal and Narangwal whose water never dried up. When Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh was released from prison he used to come to this place in Narangwal and did his meditation and started singing kirtan. This pond was known as Malaiana. At this place Bhai Randhir Singh also met Saint Ram Narayan as well when Bhai Sahib came after release from imprisonment. GyaniNahar Singh wrote this account in his book. Swami Ramnarayan was stated to have very long life who had met six gurus. When the Tenth Guru went to south, Ram Narayan went to Rishikesh where he stayed thereafter.
