SARDAR JAWAHAR SINGH RANDHAWA OF KHUNDA, was son of Randhawa Jat Chief Sardar Prem Singh, a soldier in the army of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who had once been with the Kanhaiya Misl, but a major portion of whose territory had been confiscated by the Maharaja. Prem Singh had to seek a place under a relation, Desa Singh Majithia, with ten horsemen, in which capacity he continued to serve Maharaja Ranjit Singh until his death in November 1824.
Jawahar Singh joined the service of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1836 along with his brother Jaimal Singh. He proceeded to Peshawar with Lahina Singh when the latter marched out to relieve the Lahore army after the battle of Jamrud in April 1837. Jawahar Singh also served under Lahina Singh in the hill country of Mandi. The Khunda Jat Sardars remained the hereditary Jagirdar of the Majithia Sardars until the annexation of the Punjab in 1849.
