In the year 1938, that day of Chaitra month had brought a new message for the religious lovers of Delhi. On that day the foundation stone of a very grand temple was to be laid in Delhi, which was named Laxminarayan Mandir.
This temple was built by one of the richest man of India, Raja Baldev Das Birla. The program of laying the foundation stone of the temple was very grand. Devoted subjects and all the princely states were invited from every corner of the country to participate in this program. There was a lot of activity in the temple premises. From ordinary subjects to kings and emperors, they had come to participate in this program with great pride. The kings and emperors who came from the Marathas and Rajputana were dressed in their special royal clothes. Who would lay the foundation stone of the famous Laxminarayan temple, it was not decided yet. No one knew who would be the fortunate person who would lay the foundation stone of the temple. Each king hoped that he would be the lucky person who would be invited to lay the foundation stone of the temple.
Dholpur King Maharaj rana Udaybhan Singh was present in this program in a very simple dress. Bharatpur ruler Maharaja Sawai Brijendra Singh could not come for some reason to participate in this ceremony.
The ceremony started. Renowned educationist and scholar Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya stood up. He started reading the conditions related to the merits of a person who could lay the foundation stone of the temple. Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya said, “India’s scholarly proposed to fulfill some conditions for the person who has a cornerstone of this temple. The person who fulfills all these conditions will be the only person to keep the foundation stone of this Lakshmi Narayan temple. “When Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya started reading conditions for the person who has the foundation stone of the temple, the silence was spread over the meeting. Malviya ji was going to read those conditions, the faces of the kings sitting in the meeting were bending down. When Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya mentioned all the attributes of the person hanging the temple, at that time it was silent in the auditorium. The qualities and characteristics mentioned by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya for the person who laid the foundation stone of the temple were as follows-
The person who lays the foundation stone of the holy Lakshmi Narayan temple should be of high noble, that person should be of high ideals, he should not consume alcohol and meat. That person should not have married more than once. No one in his lineage ever gave his daughter to the Mughals. The above qualities which were explained by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, it was not possible to find these qualities in any one person. Because almost all the kings and emperors of that time used to consume alcohol and meat. He not only arranged many marriages for the enjoyment of opulence, but also kept many concubines as his concubines in his palace. At that time such a situation had arisen in the auditorium, as had happened in the court of King Janak at the time of bow yajna. No king could dare to call himself the authority to lay the foundation stone.
Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya was given the right to choose a suitable person to lay the foundation stone of the temple. Standing in the auditorium, he declared, ‘In my view, among all the people present here, only Dholpur ruler Maharaj rana Uday Bhanu Singh has stood the test of this proposal. Therefore, the foundation stone of the temple will be laid through their lotus tax. Hearing this announcement of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, a wave of happiness ran among the Jats. The famous Mall Chau of Sauram village of Muzaffarnagar district. Hargyan Singh stood in the assembly and said, ‘This decision of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya ji has raised the heads of all the Jats in India. Hit hard that the stone broke into pieces.
Dholpur Naresh Maharaj rana Udaybhanu Singh laid the foundation stone of Laxmi Narayan Mandir, which is today known as Birla Mandir, and brought pride to the Jats at the national level. This article inscribed on a rock pillar located in this temple is written- ‘With the inspiration of Shri Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, the foundation stone of ‘Shri Laxmi Narayan Mandir’ was established on Chaitra Krishna Paksha Amavasya, Sunday Vikrami Samvat 1989 (1932) by the lotus feet of the King of Dholpur, Shri Maharajrana Udaybhanu Singh. On the other side of this pillar of Birla Mandir, on the left side of the statue of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya on the marble stone, there is a statue of Dholpur Naresh Udaybhan Singh laying the foundation stone of the temple.
