  • Risaldar Sardar Kojha Singh Sarkaria, Chief Of Ghorewah, was born in 1849, served in the Central India Horse with distinction, and fought with the British Indian Army in the Afghan battles. On retirement, he was granted the status of 'Kursi Nashin' by the British. This allowed selected Indian officers and Chiefs to be seated while visiting English dignitaries, who were issued 'Kursi Nashin certificates. He was married to Kishan Kaur (1853-1942), daughter of Jatsikh Jamadar Saudagar Singh of Mahkan, near Amritsar, had issues with three sons -

  • Sardar Bahadur Ajaib Singh, Chief Of Ghorewah, was honoured with an OBE (Order of the British Empire)during the First World War, and he served in the Seventh Haryana Lancers. He was declared the hero of the siege of Kotal-Amara in Turkey, where he gallantly fought hand-to-hand, taking five heads of the enemy. He was the first Indian officer who was transferred to the Civil Service as a Magistrate, and was selected as a Jail Superintendent, serving at Jalandhar for eleven years.     • Colonel Ram Singh (1902-1955), participated in the First World War. He was educated in America for five years, and then at Oxford University, England, for a year, remaining abroad from 1922 to 1928.When he returned to India as a bacteriologist, he took up an appointment with the Agriculture College, Lyallpur, (nowFaisalabad, now Pakistan). In 1930, he invented 'Berseem' a green fodder that proved to be a boon for animals during the summer months.
