Sardar Bahadur Sardar Gurbachan Singh Of Alawalpur, was born in 1891 into Bains Jat family, he was the son of Sardar Bhagwan Singh Of Alawalpur. He studied at Khalsa College, Amritsar. He was dynamic and vivacious in the civil service of his district. He had habitually placed his services at the disposal of the British Government. During the First World War, he supplied recruits to the army and contributed to the War Loans and other funds. During the Akali disturbances of 1919, he firmly cast himself on the side of law and order. He was elected President of the Town Committee of Alawalpur in 1924, later becoming Member of the Provincial Legislative Council in 1930, and Sub-Registrar of Jalandhar.
