Sardar Bahadur Sardar Ranjit Singh of Akoi, was born in the village of Akoi in 1897, District Sangrur. He was the second son, from Rai Bahadur Sardar Narain Singh of Akoi (d.1939) first marriage, to Sardarni Attar Kaur. Being a leading contractor and businessman, Sardar Bahadur Ranjit Singh was the Honorary Magistrate of New Delhi and Member of the Advisory Council to the Chief Commissioner, Delhi.Among his numerous other posts were; President, Panthic Darbar, President, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Delhi, and Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Dehradun, Member, Managing Committees of Hindu College and Indraprastha College for Women, Delhi, and Member, Khalsa College Governing Council, Amritsar. He was married to Sardarni Rajinder Kaur Ghuman, and on his death in 1984, he was succeeded by four daughters and only son, Sardar Rajdev Singh of Akoi.
