Sardar Sampuran Singh Of Shamgarh , was born in 1885 into a Dhillon Jat family When Bhatti Jat ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh Of Lahore direct descendant Shahzada Shahdev Singh, visited Shamgarh along with his wife, they both decided to take the young Sampuran Singh to Raebareli, where he remained for several years. Thus, Sampuran Singh was unable to speak in Punjabi and could only converse in Urdu. Later, on reaching his maturity, he returned to Kurak, and the villages of Sagga, Jatpura and Kurak, were kindly gifted to him by Shahdev Singh, as the Shahzada rarely visited the Puniab.
Sampuran Singh was educated first at Lucknow’s oldest public schools, Colvin Taluqdars’ College, established in 1889, and later from the prestigious Aitchison College, Lahore. He had qualified as a Civil Engineer from England, later serving the Dholpur State, Rajasthan, as Chief Engineer. He later became the personal secretary to the Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh. He was died in 1954.
